Emissions?
Hi, I'm looking into buying a 6.4 and I see that in order to get good fuel mileage you need to deleted the DPF and get a tuner. Are there emissions on these in the state of Illinois and/or Wisconsin? If so, you would need to put the DPF back on correct?
Thank you |

Correct. Same would apply for warranty work if you still have the warranty.

How often are the tests? I heard every 5 years but I don't know if that is correct or not?

Depends on the state, some are every year, others every other year, still others only when you take ownership. Each state varies on the frequency if at all.
Also, to elaborate on my previous answer. Assuming Ill/Wis test Diesels, I believe Ill is >=16K but that could have changed, it could be anything from a safety check to connecting to OBDII port and doing a visual for emissions equipment as well as soot. If they take the stand like most other states are doing then it will be the later. |

where i live they actually strap the thing to a dyno, insert a sensor into the tailpipe, do a visual, and i believe plug into the 'puter. oh yeah, it's EVERY year and it cost THREE times as much as a getting a gas vehicle done.

Where's that?

Nevada is the same yearly, visual inspection, on a dyno with plug into port and a sniffer test. Only cost $36 to do though. Im gonna rig my DPF to be easily taken on and off for inspections.

if you are based in the Nevada counties of Clark or Washoe... currently there is no testing or inspections in other NV counties.

Yes, in one of those counties ...
