Thinking about a 6.4

I'm a fairly new here and have had my 6.7 since September of 2010 and was a die hard duramax guy until then. I still have my 06 dmax and have been thinking I would like to try a 6.4. I want honest opinions on what the bad is about the trucks. I have one in mind that's a 2010 cc/sb king ranch with 13,000 miles and is all stock. Whats the longevity of the truck and what should I look for?

You should get quite a few responses with details but I'll just say, in my humble, mechanically uninclined experience/opinion, the job 3 6.4 your considering is 30 times the truck MY job 1 was. In MY case, a lemon or just a plain pos, I don't know.

I'm new to the org too. I bought a '10 6.4L loaded XLT last July. I have 10K miles on the truck of which 1/2 is towing my trailer and toys. Nothing but good things to say. It has blown white smoke a couple of times during regen on cold days this winter. From what I've learned from this site and added research, white smoke is super hot air from burning the particulates in the DPF filter.

I've talked with alot of other 6.4L owners and everybody loves their truck. That's my two bits.

How are they with spartan tuning? What kind of mileage are you guy seeing with and without DPF? I'm not impressed with my H&S very much. It shifts like sh!t and they have nothing for updates yet and will be a long while before they do, but it does get good mileage (around 20 mpg) I hope it'll be close to what my dmax gets and will last as long as it has with minimal issues

h&s just came out with an update the other day that changes shift strategy and shift points. Everyone says it makes a huge difference in the shifts. i love my minimaxx

the 6.4 is horrible on fuel, un tuned....all city i get ten mpg, tuned i hear its about 15-16 . H&S just came out with their updates on the 19th i hear they r good, plus they are free..... i will be installing my new exhaust and tuner tomorrow....

Ive put 6k on my Job 1 08 6.4, so far I love it minus the fuel milage. Tune and exaust will be on within the week, I purchased IDP tunes on the SCT Livewire. You will love your 6.4

They are great on Spartan tuning. I love mine. Spartan just released an update that fixed high EBP at 1/4 throttle and made the shifts on the higher HP tunes a little better amongest other things.

I love the 275 tune, it shifts a little hard still in my OP, but if you switch to the Spartan 300 tune, it shifts pretty smooth.
