Oil and Filter Changes: Milage or Age?

It's just made 7 months that I've had my truck, but still haven't hit 5k miles. I'm at 4200 and will probably be another month or 2 before I hit 5k miles. Does this have any effect on when I should change my oil? Also this means I probably won't have 10k miles on it by the time it makes a year old. Should I change my fuel filters sooner than 10k miles?

On my F-150 I ran synthetic b/c I was only putting around 7k miles a year on the truck. I didn't like going a year on only two oil changes of regular oil.

My dealer said at one point that my warranty would be in jeopardy if I went much past the 6 month interval regardless of mileage. But after a couple of years the service dept. said that as long as the mieage was in line it would be ok. Would like to hear the "official" ruling.
