Question new diesel owner.

1st time diesel owner, little help. 1st i just bought a 2008 f-350 king ranch 6.4.. just got a message on dash that stated " drive truck to clean filter". then i felt/heard diff. noise and the truck kinda speed up a little, then light went out that stated drive truck. also im only getting 10-11 mpg. is that normal, i have heard other people are getting around 15-18. any info will help.

To get that mpg you got to get a tuner and dpf delete exhaust.

Diesel Particulate Filter - Comes on the '08s and newer. The "drive truck" message is probably the re-gen mode kicking in. During re-gen the engine kicks more fuel down the exhaust to heat up the DPF to "clean" it out.

The mpg you posted are right around what I see and the way your truck reacts during regen is normal. I see around 11mpg in town and 14-15 highway rolling between 70-80mph.
