changing trans filter info needed

Hi, I had to replace my wifes bosses transmission pan gasket today on his 08. It was leaking. I changed the filter too. My question is, how many quarts of fluid do I need normally? I bought 8 and it still seems like its a bit low. I think its reading at approx the bottom of the stick. Not on the hash marks. Since it was leaking i assume i needed more then a routine service. But whats the normal amopunt thats needed? Its a 4wd if it matters.

The transmission will hold 7.5 quarts and the hold system holds 19 quarts total.
