I bought a 2008 F-350 this summer to pull a fifth wheel. Unfortunately I assumed it came with a decent size fuel tank. However, when tank is low and I top off I can't get any more than 20 gallons into the thing. I can't believe a truck made for hauling would have such a small tank. Perhaps fuel gauge is faulty. I really don't want to fork over a grand for a new tank but I am fed up with frequent fuel stops. I am wondering if anyone has come across this situation?
Thanks. jac |

I think the F350 has a 38 gallon tank

He's in a short wheel base. Small tank yea,but you should still be able to squeeze at least 25 gallons into it unless your filling it with 1/4 tanks left (which is good) and thank you for your service.

Im pretty sure that theshort beds have a 29 gallon tank and the long beds have a 38 gallon tank.
As for only being able to fit a certain amount of fuel in the tank before the pump kicks off......do you take your time and let the foam go down and keep topping it off? You may want to do a harpoon mod....it lets you fill the tank easier and is something you can do in your own driveway. |

My 2008 6.4 had the same problem. I took it to the dealer no less than 3 times complaining that the display said 0 miles to empty and I could only get 23-24 gallons of fuel in it.The short wheel base trucks have a 30.5 gallon tank. Every Time I took it in they gave me the same response " no problem with the tank or gauge, it has a reserve in the tank to keep you from running out". I finally decided that they must be right until I traded that truck in for a 2010 just like it. Now when this truck says 0 miles to empty it means it and when you fuel it up at that level I get around 29 gallons of fuel in it. My first truck was a job 1 built in early 07. I am now convinced that there was something wrong with either the calibration of the gauge for the tank or the sending unit. I could drive my 08 for miles after it said 0 miles to empty. I don't dare do this with my 2010 it has almost left me stranded, but I get a lot more miles out of a tank of fuel since I am using 29 gallons of the tanks capacity instead of 23 or 24.

Is it hard to prime the fuel system, I guess you cycle the key to the on position and back.

Fuel tank - has anyone heard about this?
Thanks gents for your responses.
In answer to questions, when fueling I have not taken it slowly as Spatel23 suggests. I will definitely try that. Also, I just contacted Titan and they have a larger tank. I might go down that road if I can convince the finance officer! Hooksett: special thanks. jac |
