Yeah, because I bought a FX4 grille for the '08 I'm rebuilding, and it was white...

i painted my grille, which isn't an FX4 but it looks just like yours, it held up real well, it's been months and i can see any paint coming off or anything, but when you wash it or it rains the water drips down and leaves deposits on the grille, annoying, i can't wait to get/make my own grille.

The outside of the grill is painted, but the inside bars are a gray textured color and I would like to paint it black to match the rest of the truck. Im just not sure if paint would hold up very well.

They only come in some colors, if you have a different color you have to get it painted. Mines holding up pretty good.

2010 FX4's come with a Chrome Grill - Painted is not an option.

I changed from a Chrome package grille to a fx4 and painted the inside gloss black to match the outside paint holds fine as long as it gets preped right. The inside bars have a little texture though which you can see though the paint if you look closely not a big deal to me it would take a long time to smooth all that out just not worth it but i still think it look good all one color!

I painted my chrome XLT grille to match my truck and I'll be painting an FX4 grille in the next couple days to replace it.
Painting over the chrome works fine if you take the time to prep. I screwed it up the first time I tried it and rushed the job. When it started to flake, I took it all the way down with a green scrubby(technical term)and some acetone and basically started over. I used bulldog adhesion promoter, a couple coats of this primer: Spray Max Epoxy Primer aerosol and some rattle can base/clear that I got from the local automotive paint shop. Everything has held up great and there are no signs of water spots, paint flaking, etc. I wash it often because it gets caked with bugs all the time. It still looks as good as the day I painted it. ![]() ![]() The FX4 grille that I bought is that medium stone color so I'll be painting that to match as well. I'm doing bumpers this time around so I won't be using any rattle can stuff. I'll be using all the supplies and directions in this thread to paint this time around: Today's project on the 2000 CC It's the same basic job, just using better quality supplies. |
