Why the oil filter on top of engine?

Ever since I got my truck a bunch of my friends are asking me questions about my truck and the engine, I think basically trying to be smartasses. But I couldn't answer this one. Why is the oil filter on top of my engine and the new 6.7 ford put it back on the bottom. Is there any advantages or disadvantages on where the oil filter is?

I my opinion the filter has no advantages.

A lot of manufactures are going to cartridge type filters.

Tell your friends to FO...haha

Different oiling system on the 6.7

The 6.0 filter was moved up top (this is only speculation, since it does not directly mention this -- I am making the assumption, since this would be one of the easiest explanations) to reduce the oil passages on the outside of the block to help minimize oil leaks (hahahahaha).

Aside from that, "Easy Access" is the only thing mentioned in the Coffee Table book.

Maybe they didn't want to wrap every filter in steel and decided it would be cheaper to use a cartridge. I like the spin on filters myself.
