Why two turbos?

I was talking to a buddy and he ask me this question and couldn't answer this. Why did international put two turbos on the 6.4l?

for efficiency with 2 turbos you can increase pressure and volume without lag like you would with a monster single

Yeah pretty much, when you are trying to take off from a stop while towing, the twin turbo system will help you get moving quicker due to the lack of turbo lag with the low pressure turbo spooling up much quicker to feed the high pressure turbo to get your rig moving. More efficient than one big turbo.

Jesus my buddy just take a simple answer. Now he wants to know why if two turbo is better for towing then why did ford go back to one turbo and the other two make still only have one? Cause he wants to buy a diesel and rode in my truck and loves the power I have but he also likes the new supe duty with all the new features so he is asking me all these questions. I told him to the 6.4 and be done with it.

The new 6.7 went to a single turbo but has 2 compressor wheels on a common shaft which allows it to work as twins or sequential turbos. The 6.7 is bada**!

You say the 6.7 is badass now do you just mean the power cause we really know nothing about how this engine will hold up with mods. And I test drove one the other
week and the power felt almost the same as my 6.4 stock.

Power wise. I test drove one a couple months ago and wasn't very impressed but I had the salesman with me so I couldn't drive it the way I wanted. I ot a chance to drive one again yesterday without anyone with me and it was a totally different experience. I have a buddy with a 2010 F-350 CCSB and I was comparing a 2011 F-350 CCLB to it. The 6.4 doesn't have quite the power that the 6.7 has. The 6.4 has almost 0 turbo lag but the 6.7 spools even quicker and the new 6 speed auto is sweet. Also runs lower RPM's at highway speed since they have a taller gear ratio. I was turning just over 1600 RPM's at 70-72 mph. I agree with not knowing how they will hold up when modded but the same was said about the 6.4 when it came out. Both are good engines but I think the 6.7 is gonna be a beast when tuning is available and any bugs that may arise are worked out.
