The one thing most people seem to be overlooking is your rear axle ratio. It plays a large part in your mileage. Two identical trucks with different ratios will get different mileage. 3.73=best mileage, 4.88=worst. This will account for the 8-18 difference. Also on a side note it is a large diesel truck you don't buy them for the mileage. Will be taking delivery of my 08-F450 late June. |

Started an 1100 mile trip from South Alabama to Kansas with around 400 miles on my F250 XL SD 4x2 Supercab. Driving the speed limit. Avg MPG for entire trip was 19.5. Very light on the throttle for most of this trip. Picked up my 5er at around 9,000lb and hauled it to Nebraska around 210 miles. Reset MPG at start of tow. Avg MPG was 11.3. Lot of hills and right foot was quite heavy on some of them. Very close to what my 95 C1500 6.5L TD does but quite a bit more power if you use it. Once again it seems that MPG is controlled with the right foot. Last edited by DavidPhillips : 06-12-2007 at 09:02 PM. |

2008 Ford F250
Only getting 12mpg at best not hauling and unloaded. Any suggestions would be great. Not broke in yet but this is scary compared to my old truck. It was an 02 Duramax, I was getting 17 unloaded and around 10 pulling my 14K 5 Wheel at 70. 2008 F250 Crew Cab 6.4 4x4 3.73 Last edited by chrisc291 : 06-26-2007 at 05:37 AM. Reason: add info |

I was watching a video of the ProPerformance guy driving the F450 for Ford 150,000 miles in 131 days. He said that the motor felt like it broke in and started breathing at or about 40,000 miles. He was on his second set of tires. Still had not changed brakes. The only days they did not drive was on service days. They were pulling a 18,000 pound 40 foot 3 axle trailer. They averaged around 1100 miles a day. So be patient and let your truck get used to you. It is just a lil' shy right now. LAJones |

The biggest complaint about the 6.4 is fuel economy. Unfortunately they are never going to get as good as the 6.0 did, which doesnt generally get as good as the 7.3 did in a comparable truck. The 6.4 has two things going against it as far as fuel economy. First of all, the fact that it is a more powerfull engine means it is going to use more fuel, and then the fact that ULSD isnt helping get better economy as well. Id expect 10-13 initially and 12-16 after break in and learned stratagy, all dependand on driving style obviously.
