Transmission fluid
What the difference between Mercon SP and Mercon LV? Im curious being Valvoline Maxlife trans fluid covers both...I drained mine 2010 tonight on my lift and realized the 2 cases of sp from my 2007 I had won't work or at least I didn't want to take a chance so I drove the old bronco home and ill get the LV in the morning! So I'm just curious whats the deal if anyone knows thanks!!!

The Mercon LV is a synthetic AT Fluid. The only interchange that I know of for LV is the new formula Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

Amsoil recommends this for your application.
AMSOIL - Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATL) |

The real Difference between the Mercon SP, Fords last fluid, and Mercon LV, is the LV means "Low Viscosity".....
This IS IMPORTANT... These 5R110 transmissions are NEAR BULLETPROOF, but stay with the LV..... I just did a study on it, because I stupidly looked at the Mercon LV on the Dipstick without my glasses and thought it said Mercon IV (Mercon 4) and this did not make any sense. Soooooooo, I just did a study on it, and the Mercon LV is a bit more special. Even the Amsoil Universal Synthetic Transmission Fluid is not up to par... It is the LV issue, and it is important. Out of 194 of these 6.4's running in Australia right now so far, there are not transmission issues, and use the LV stuff for sure. ![]() Cheers, lone Ranger in Oz... |

I agree that's why I suggested AMSOIL - Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATL) |
