Technical Amsoil Question please, answer from Techies...

09 F-450 CC DRW LWB, new, 17,000 kms only.... Doing HEAVY Towing sometimes. Spartan 210, clean exhaust, GVM (GVRW) upgrade, air suspension upgrade, extended bumper and Warn Winch, Air Brakes (Hydraulic over) upgrade.

It is not a transmission problem, but a Amsoil question: Can I top off my 5R140 TorqueShift Auto, with AMSOIL "Universal Synthetic Transmission Fluid)?

I have about 18 litres of it, from the Chebby Service stock... Is it OK to mix with the Stock Motorcraft Fluid...

And is Dextron 6 or Amsoil Universal the right fluid for a full Service?

(The proper Motorcraft stuff is not widely available in Australia and I would have to have it shipped.... Where I think Dextron VI is available and so is Amsoil in Sydney.)

Any shortcomings in using the AMSOIL Universal Auto Fluid???

amsoil trans fluid for that truck is ATLQT-EA. Not sure if your stuff will mix or not.

lone ranger, i just stumbled across your thread, i would like to try and answer your questions, i looked up your truck and looked up AMSOIL'S universal synthetic trans fluid, it would appear in this case that the universal fluid will NOT work in your application, however, i will call the tech line tomorrow and report back to you once i have spoken with them. Click the link above to check what it is compatable with.
According to the product look up guide, you should be using AMSOIL fuel efficient ATF. There are many benifits to this oil, longer fluid life, smoother shifts, seal conditioners and anti foam agents to name a few. I hope this helps, i'll pm you tommorrow with the tech line results, thanks, Chad

There has been a change, and there is even a real Difference between the Mercon SP, Fords last fluid, and Mercon LV, is the LV means "Low Viscosity".....

This IS IMPORTANT... These 5R110 transmissions are NEAR BULLETPROOF, but stay with the LV.....

I just did a study on it, because in scratching around I stupidly looked at the Mercon LV on the Dipstick without my glasses and thought it said Mercon IV (Mercon 4) and this did not make any sense. Soooooooo, I just did a study on it, and the Mercon LV is a bit more special. Even the Amsoil Universal Synthetic Transmission Fluid is not up to par...

It is the LV issue, and it is important. Out of 194 of these 6.4's running in Australia right now so far, there are not transmission issues, and use the LV stuff for sure. Nothing else will do, why take a chance, and since there is nothing around to definitively do the job..... I have just ordered some LV...

Lone ranger, I spoke with the AMSOIL tech line today, your partially correct, the universal atf will not work in your application, however, the option i gave you above is absolutly the the right fluid for your truck, the fuel effecient ATF is Low Viscosity and also comes with all the benefits mentioned in the link above. hope this helps, good luck, chad
