08 plus 6.4L VS 08 plus V-10
I'm a member on another forum and they have a thread v-10 vs psd. And some root head v-10 guys in there said a v-10 auto 4.30 gears can tow or haul just as much as a 6.4L with the same setup. I call BS there is no way a gas engine can tow or haul the same as a diesel. What are your inputs on this?

ya it will tow as much it will just not get the gas millage as the PSD or the longevity of the motor cause the V10 will be turning around 5-7000 rpm the entire time

i would have to say it is possible, but you aint gonna be able to pull it nearly as well or maintain speed and control nearly as possible as a psd. put it this way too... hp is a non existent figure. what i mean is, take a 400 hp honda civic and a 400 hp diesel. can that honda tow as much as that diesel if all variables were the exact same minus the engine? no... because if you took both those vehicles against 400 actual horses, what would pull more? the 400 horses will. the only true way to rate an engines power and pulling capabilities is in torque! see where im coming from??

I have mixed feelings about this. My 2008 toyota tundra will out pull my bone stock 2008 f-250 6.4. My friend has a 2007 f-350 and we had a pull contest with 10,000 lbs and my tundra was faster by 15 mph in the same distance, but my tundra got bossed around alot more by the load. The diesel can purr along while the gas engine has to really turn some rpms. Also they are making some very capable gas engine tow rigs in the half ton class. My tuned 6.4 can get up and go but in a drag race my tundra still pulls ahead.

If a tundra is outpulling and outrunning your powerstroke, you need to have that truck looked at. There is no way that tundra has anywhere near the torque needed to keep up much less pass a diesel (be it ford, chevy or dodge) while pulling a trailer.

Depending on the ford, it should be somewhere between 7,500 and 8,000 lbs, right? And the toyota is around 6,000? I still don't see it out-towing the superduty when you've got 350 hp/650 tq vs 380hp/400tq(?)
