30k Trans Service

Hi all,
Quick question- coming up on 30k service- 2008 early job 1 f250 cc 4x4 SB. Do i need to have the fluid changed and the external filter swapped out? How much does that run. I saw in the service manual that the service wasn't until 60k.

To have the service and external filter changed it will probably run you over $400.

I have a late job 1 (07/07) without the external filter and it only ran me $149 for the 30K service at my dealer just a few weeks ago.

yea I dont see much of a point in doing a trans service and not changing the filter.... but thats just me. And its the filter that makes it ridiculous it costs over $200 says my dealer...

I'm at 29,400 miles and needing to do this service as well. Haven't called my dealer to see how much it will run me. $400 is STUPID!

so to clarify according to suggested service intervals
30k- trans fluid flush, replace external fluid filter if equipped
60k- trans fluid flush, replace external fluid filter if equipped, and replace internal pan filter?

How do I know if I have it? Im an 04/07 build date. Is it that little black thing that looks like a big fuel filter (can style) on an f-150 or other gas vehicle?

That black can is your external tranny filter. And that filter has a list price of $170. Add 8-9 quarts of tranny fluid at $4-5 a pop plus an hour of labor, and you have your bill.

Do you have to replace the whole can or is it an insert?

Reason for asking is i searched on summit's website and they had an insert (like the paper media for the oil filter in 6.0 & 6.4) and that was only $15.

Is there a bypass method that any of you are using to disable it? I know that the newer 6.4's dont have an external filter.

Help me save $170 so I can spend it on fun mods, not this crap!
