How do you like your 6.4?
I was driving down the road the other day in my 05.. looked over and caught an 08 6.4 checking me out..
rc lb ,all black, same specs as my current truck.. price was descent.. i would love to have warranty and a newer truck again, but dont know if its worth ditching my built/problem free 6.0 ive got now.. any opinions?.. and YES i would tune it..ASAP!

I enjoy my truck immensely. Lots of power, lots of luxury. Hauls anything I have hooked up to it at this time. I look forward to driving it every day.

I had a 6.0 but got rid of it at the end of the lease because of an oil leak the dealer wouldn't/couldn't fix. Missed the PSD so much I got an '08. I really liked the 6.0 and would have kept it if there was no oil leak. I really like the 6.4 and think it is a great truck. Just my opinion but if I had a 6.0 with no problems and paid off I would keep it. I may get some flak but I don't see a huge difference between my 2005 6.0 and my 2008 6.4 as far as trucks go. 6.4 rides a little better but gets worse milage and I like the 20 inch wheels on the 6.4.

, it was further down the page though, I guess i was more looking for a comparison, from 6.0 to 6.4.. I remember seeing/hearing alot of guys saying they wanted there 7.3 back when the 6.0s appeared.. didnt know if anyone felt the same going from 6.0 to 6.4.. |

If you've set up your 6.0 to remove it's reliability problems (head studs, egr, etc) then you have a pretty good truck. While warranty is nice, it's a real ball and chain too. The 6.4s have a couple of issues that I would "fix" if it weren't still under warranty.
While I'd say the factory 6.0 was less reliable than the 6.4, I wouldn't say the factory 6.4 is perfect. The fuel economy sucks. In fact I bought my 6.4 from a guy who had a good 6.0 that was customized and he just didn't find the 6.4 to be that much better to take the time/money to fix up the 6.4. He still has his 6.0. |

If you are going to mod the 6.4 (DPF delete+), I would imagine you would love it. But I'm unwilling to take that gamble. I hate mine for the sole reason of relative MPG's to all other Diesel trucks new and old. I'm upgrading to an pre-DPF truck, probably Duramax since I like the quiet, maybe 06-07 Cummins if I can find one I can pay cash for.
If I was willing to gamble on the DPF delete, I think I would be very happy with this otherwise awesome truck. Remember certain mods (DPF delete), you carry the risk of possibly having the warranty voided, therefore removing that reason from your decision to move to a 6.4. Now...do you still want to get a 6.4? |
