Main Radiator Not Part of 100k Warranty
Took my 08 Job1 into the dealer today for a small coolant leak. Have 44k miles on it. They informed me if it is the main radiator, that it isn't covered under the 100k diesel warranty (only the 36k general warranty)...
Don't know if that is root cause or not, but just wanted to share the info as it pertains to Ford's warranty. |

A lot of people hare having this issue, it sucks since there are so many radiators going bad. There is a TSB out for this problem. Some people say that the dealership will replace it because of this, but I don't know.

I have talked to both of my dealers on this (as I have the same issue) and they both said the radiator will only be covered under the powertrain warranty if the thermostats are overextended, otherwise you get stuck with the bill. (about $1500 with thermostats radiator and labor) And no one offers a full aluminum one, I checked. Good luck

In the same boat! 42,000 miles and second radiator to leak. They say it could be the thermostat, but to find out they have to dig into the engine. If its not the thermostat, then its $1500 bucks. At this rate Ill never get to save up for my DPF Delete.

Do you have the venturi tee installed? (part # 8C3Z-8B3479-B cost less than $10) and the first time it was replaced were the thermostats replaced or at least checked? Maby check with your local radiator shops and see if they will install custom aluminum end caps my local ones wont but that dosnt mean yours wont.

Mine ended up being the T-stats, so I got the whole thing completed under warranty. Although, only because I printed out the TSB and called the dealer while they still had the truck. Otherwise, $100 says they would have just swapped the main radiator and charged me.

Yes I think that it is stupid that the radiator is not covered under the engine warranty. It is part of the engine, meant to keep the engine cool. If it fails and looses all coolant and the motor burns down... will ford cover it then? Ive always driven ford but Im getting sick of them pulling crap like this and sticking the owner with the bill...

Should at least be covered under the powertrain warranty....

I agree. My first radiator was replaced and the venturee tee was added to the truck at that time. Not sure if they checked the thermostat. Weird thing is, I've been driving the truck lately and its not leaking any more. The coolant level checks ok too. What do you guys think?
