6.0 vs 6.4 questions
I am familiar with and I have been looking to buy a 6.0. I understand most of the issues presented by the 6.0 but I am unfamiliar with the 6.4.
From what I understand, the major drawback with the 6.4 is the mileage. How would this group compare and contrast the 6.0 vs the 6.4 as I look to buy my first PS? |

I have had both and the 6.4 has potential, with upgrades, to run circles around the 6.0. When I got my 6.0 in 2003 I felt I was the guinee pig for Ford and had all problems you've ever heard of with that motor. It was very strong and whistled like crazy when it wasn't in the shop. I waited for Ford to get the kinks out of this 6.4 and bought a 2010 in Sept of 09 and have been very pleased with the truck. The aftermarket has so many tricks you can do to these new trucks that will make you want to drive the heck out of it. Yes the milage sucks and the regen does also, but like many of the subscribers in this forum have done with Spartan, H&S, and SCT, you can see much better numbers with milaege and power output. Overall good truck and lots of deals out there right now

Ive had both also. I my opinion, the 6.4 is nicer in every aspect, all the way around. |

If you're nice to it, the 6.4 gets decent mileage. I commonly get 18-20 on the highway if I keep the RPMs below 2000.

ive been a 7.3 guy for the most part but have always kinda wanted something newer and faster. i say if you going to get one of the two id get the 6.4 no questions asked! it has sooo much potential, you can put down some unreal numbers with JUST one of the three tuners lifted above. i cant wait to get one

Thanks for the response.
I have read about the Spartan tuner,......, but I live in California. Can you modify the 6.4 in California to where it is still a better bet than the 6.0? |

No matter where you live, it's still illegal to disable, dismember, or remove emissions equipment; it's a Federal offense (but I'd still do it). That being said, anything you do to the truck can be returned to stock if it's not too extreme, in order to pass the damn smog test. The 6.4 is much more tuneable than the 6.0. Check out Spartans website and their FAQ page, lots of good info.
