Water in fuel

I was getting a drain fuel seperator light on my dash and when I drained it I could not see any water in the fuel. Sometimes I could not get anything to drain out of the seperator. I replaced filters two weeks ago and took a 800 mile trip. On the way going the light came on again. When I got to where I was going I tried to drain it and nothing came out. On the way back the same thing happened when I got home I drained it and nothing came out. I think the sensor might be bad. Anyone have this problem?

I changed my filters yesterday. When I went to drain it I opened the valve and nothing came out. I cranked the engine and shut it right back off and bingo full flow from the valve.

A cheap test would be drain the bowl into a mason jar and put some place where you can see it, but it won't be disturbed. Eventually, it'll settle out, and you'll be able to see if there actually is water in the fuel.
