If the screen looks dirty or has a hole in it then change it, if not I wouldnt sweat it. Amsoil makes a sp replacment that I have been running for the past 40k with no problems. Its around 8 bucks a qrt if I remember right but sp was like 15 a qrt at the dealer back then.

What method did you use when switching from Ford to Amsoil?

I feel the same way... the job1's pay more for that filter and from waht ive heard, it only does 10% of the job that the internal filters do. I plan on swapping to the newer trans pan and filter. Just not sure what to do with the old external filter yet (don't want to overload the fluid pump going thru both.) I saw your thread, and am trying to find that info. Will post it there.
