Played around with a new 6.4

Whats up guys! Havent had much time to be around lately! Hope everyones doing fine, Im going to try and get in here more often now! Anyways! I just saw a new 6.4 down at the shop a little while ago! Its a good looking ride! The interiors pretty nice too! Not to much on the exhaust tips ! Seemed to run okay, The stock 6.4 stayed about 3-4 cars back of the duramax (Yes logan, Its now fixed! by the grace of God! ) !
But , in a bad note the local techs up our way are saying they've already seen major failures and problems! Hope they can work this out!
Ya'll come back now, Ya hear?

It's way too early in the game to cry foul yet. You have to remember that a very large number of the 6ers that "had failures" were caused by people abusing the snot out of them with programmers and such. Some people could destroy a billet toilet paper dispenser! With this being the case, you will always have a certain percentage of failures caused by sub-Einstein drivers especially in fleet vehicles.

I've got my fingers crossed, but the 6.4 doesn't look to be very user friendly in the maintenance department. I especially like how they tell you to always make sure that the funky exhaust tips are clean and free of mud or obstructions. They should just supply a toilet brush with the truck and make it part of the startup procedure!

Thats got to be the funniest thing i've ever read! The problems im refering to seem to be warranty problems as well! I agree, people love there new found power and pound the truck into peices! According to the tech, there having warranty problems, not to mention he hates the idea of working on one there's no way it could be as bad as a duramax ....right? *go figure* im starting to hate on duramaxes!

But the 6.4 just came out, and there isn't much if anything out there as far as aftermarket engine programming yet....doubt that's the case.

Very true, From what they said , there seeing high failure rates, and very mad techs, (from what i gather as i saw a tech hand the keys to a SM and say if your so D**b Smart fix it your self! I cant!)
It could have just been a bad day! I liked the truck! It rides very well with a great bottom end!

Hay guys, I'm new to this Forum but I have some news on the Mod's & Warranties on the 6.4. I just bought a 08 F350 CC Longbox Lariat. And at signing I had to sign the "6.4 Power Stroke Diesel Delivery Checklist" and one of the items in the list was..

- The installation/use of any non-Ford product will not necessarily void the Ford New Vehicle Limited Warranty. If however, the non-Ford product (e.g. performance chips, modified exhaust, etc.) fails or causes a Ford part to fail, the cost of the repair and any related damage are not covered by the Ford New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The vehicle owner would need to look to the manufacture or installer of the non-Ford product for repairs.

Not sure if this is normal. But I don't remember doing this on my 06 6.0

We'll it almost looks as navistar has dropped the powerstrokes from what the local dealership is hearing. The techs here are told if it has any aftermarket parts it is to stamped as voided warranty and returned to the SM! Dose that always happen? Dont think so but thats how its supposed to be! For the most part i know they overlook quite a few parts!

Thing is these engines can put out a lot more power than the factory gives to you in the first place. They get upset when you release that power. The 6.0 should have handled the added power, but the early years were filled with a lot of warranty claims. I think a lot of owners had previously owned chipped or modded 7.3's which took it without problems and thought the 6.0 would be the same story. Unfortunately not. Now there are a lot of people that may be just as afraid of the 6.4 as they are the 6.0.

I wonder if a lot of the problem with the 6.4 relate back to the sales people telling the new owners that the new trucks don't need a warm up , or that the break in period is not needed with the new tech engines. Just had a little bit of an argument with a sales guy about that, according to him, you dont have to worry about breaking them in. I don't care what they say, it needs a break in period. So you have a bunch of people jumping into new vehicles cold and jamming the throttles to the floor to see how fast the new truck is, that can't be good for it.

Welcome to the Forum wetcowboy, hope you enjoy it here. Don't forget to introduce yourself in the intro forum and meet the rest of the folks here.

Gord.
