Took a 6.4 for a spin

black ext cab short bed f350, only one on the lot. I popped the hood and all I can say is I hope I never have to work on one of those, it was so packed under the hood theres absolutely NO room. Then I started it up, its real quiet. Took it down the road, it goes pretty darn good. Came back up the hill towards the dealer, really got on it, got it up to about 33 psi and it was flying, fastest pickup Ive ever driven. The interior was pretty cool inside too. I think I like those trucks alot.. I wouldnt buy one for a year or two though.

Did you check the inside of the tail pipe when you were done? I'm just curious as to how well those DPF and all that other emissions stuff in the exhaust really works. That pipe should be as clean inside as it is out.

Cool I am curious. It's supposed to be very, very clean compared to past trucks.

I've got the '08 F350 6.4 DRW CC, I'm at 5k miles, and there's zero soot on the pipe. The DPF works well. Interesting note... I read exhaust temp needs to reach 550... celsius!!! to burn off the accumulation in the DPF. That's just over 1000 degrees farenheit!!! Ford's done a good job on this truck because I also read that in some cities, the exhaust leaving the tail pipe is actually cleaner than the air that went into the filter under the hood. This truck is smooth, powerful, and quiet...

Here's a clip of my truck, 1/2 throttle, 0-45 for anyone that's interested. It's grainy to keep the file size down, and you need to change the file extension from .zip to .wmv because it's actually a windows media video file... I'll post a new clip soon of the thing under pretty good acceleration. Enjoy.

I watched your video, that thing looks REALLY NICE inside! I haven't even looked at one up close, but now I'm curious to check them out. Someone told me that the '08 350& 450's were going to be put out with TT's. Is that true?

The '08's have 2 turbos, but they are sequential. Meaning a small one feeding in to a larger one. Supposed to virtually eliminate any lag, but I haven't driven one myself and can't attest to it... I'd love to take one for a test beatin... er.... drive sometime, but I'll think I'll hang on to my 6oh... She's been good to me so far.

Yep... twin turbos, with up to 42 psi of boost. The thing makes a really cool whistle as it spools (and as it blows off pressure when you lift off the throttle), not obnoxious, just enough to let you know everything is working the way it should... Thanks for the good words; I'll post more videos soon.

nice truck man! Actually the DPF will get hotter then 550C more around the lines of 1000C. The DPF's are made withstand heat to about 2.5 times hotter then a Federal emmisions converter.

Yep, really nice truck. I'd like to take a look at them, but it would be hard to trade off my '99 350 cc drw rig thats paid off to start all over again. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard, my wife calls me a impulse shopper!
