the 6.4 is a 6.0 base block, bored out to 6.4 litres....it will have a similar head desighn with 32 valves. it will be run with high pressure fuel, just like the duramax and newest cummins, thus the quieter operation described in the article......it will run approx 30-35,000 psi of fuel pressure to run the injecors (guess im gonna have to buy a new fuel gauge...lol, and dont forget, if theres a hole in your hood all the sudden, you may have a fuel leak).....ford is trying to design the cab of the vehicle for cab off repairs, with the body mounts from the bottom and quick release brake and powersteering lines.......i heard it will have 2 egr valves but i have not had that confurmed.....the reason the oil change interval is so much higher is the oil capacity will stay the same, but the high pressure oil system wil be gone, thus making the oil last longer due to less use per mile......there is also going to be a body change for 07, but ive heard its going to be subtle....and i hope the new trubo set up is not a nightmare........Marc

i've seen that before else where. i gota quesetion about all this emissions junk. why not recalibrate or reprogrram the computer and sensors to meet newer emissions standards instead of designing a whole new engine. i'm not mistaken the reason for the discontinueing of the 7.3 was emissions. why not fix or improve a good thing?

the high pressure fuel system is gonna put a damper on the classic PSD sound...bummer...dual turbos...what!?
yeah...are the emmisions really accurate? the engine pic looks like its a mess of new parts all crammed in...i thought ford was considering an inline 6?

If they are so concerned about emissions, I agree with Super Stroke. Why not bring back the 7.3 and make all these changes to it if they need to? We all know it was, and is a good engine

The hell with that. Why not work something out with Cat and drop a C-6 Acert in and pass emissions from the start?

if you want a caterpillar, or a cummins from the FACTORY, get an f-650/f-750. the cat is a 7.2L 24-valve OHV I-6. max HP 300@2200 RPM. peak TQ 860 lb-ft @1440 RPM. the cimmins is a 24 valve OHV I-6 max HP 275 @ 2500 RPM. peak TQ 660 lb-ft @ 1600. all available with an allison automatic. plus the powerstroke/allison combo. yes, allison and psd. IH still to this very day puts the 7.3 in thier trucks. i think ford is just bs'n us cuz they want a new high HP engine to keep up with the jones'. i say give me a new gen 7.3 in the new super duty.

Well that's quite the interesting conversation. I kind of like the bring back the 7.3 idea, but it won't happen. I mean they've been sinking all the time and money into this new engine and it would be kind of ridiculous for them to just toss it. Yeah i'll miss that nice loud PSD sound, but just straight pipe it and you'll let out some sound for sure.....

Granted the 6.0 has had some problems, I think it is so much better for driving around. I think it would be stupid to go back to a 7.3. Besides to meat emmisions the only thing that would be the same would be the block. Everything else would so different it would never act, or sound like the old 7.3. Besides with the Duramax being so quite and reliable, Ford needs to get a diesel to also be quite and reliable or they are gonna loose a lot of market. Remember, most of us are the people who by a diesel to make it loud, and powerful, (i sure do) but 90% of the people want a quite, non-smoking reliable truck to drive everyday and get good fuel-milage.
