08 Powerstroke info from regional warranty rep

I was at a meeting today regarding the new 08 6.4 at our dealership . I was told only cj4 oil and motorcraft exclusive additives will be accepted and anything other than ford products will be sent in for analysis buy an independent lab to declare weather or not injectors or any other part of this new engine will be covered .

Also any trace of standard low sulfur diesel or dyed off road diesel will void warranty .

Any modification to the factory exhaust will void warranty as well as any other than stock programing .

Ford motor company is really laying down the law on this motor . no exceptions . Supposedly the new generation pcm will set a new code the cannot be erased by an aftermarket tuner/program . It will be stored in the keep alive memory , so if you plan on modding at all , including lifts, exhaust, programming(their 3 biggest concerns) be prepared to give up any and all warranty rights . magnison/moss will not bail anyone out of this strict policy as we were told today .

I was also told your service history by and at a ford dealer will come into play as to weather or not you will be covered if something goes wrong . If you have never done any maintenance or service with ford certified techs you have nobody in fords system to track your history . it will go along way if something does happen if you have had the truck regularly serviced at your dealer . It shows your commitment to keeping it maintained by ford techs .

Now the good news is they have done the equivalent of 10 million miles of durability testing . supposedly all bugs have been worked out and no hiccups from the 6.0 will be carried over . the engine will also run on bd5 only .there is a water in fuel sensor with a valve to be emptied monthly and a cooldown period of 3-5 minutes after highway or towing is required and can be tracked via the pcm by ford . the new turbos have been treated by some type of anti-corrosive material as well .

supposedly in stock form we have one hella strong truck to look forward to , just be very carefull of any type of mod including plus sized tires as they will be very strict on this considering the current legal situation with navistar/international regarding warranty claims .

Saw the window sticker on one today, it said 5year/60000 mile powertrain warranty.
Did they cut the warranty by 40k?

some of that info is true..but some of that info contradicts everything ive been told. Aftermarket exhaust WILL NOT work with these trucks as they sit. it will cause the canister that cleans the exahust to plug......but im sure the aftermarket will figure that out. Lifts can not void the powertrain warranty without proving that they caused a failure....no matter what ford says the moss magnuson act states clearly that disclaimers do not limit liability. i wont go into too much detail, but working in the field and being trained on this motor...you were fed a bunch of bull. There is quite a bit of that which was scare tactic....

I hate to say it, but if ford doesnt pull thier head out their going to lose a life long customer, namely me!
The reason I've always driven Fords is you dont have to take care of them, just drive the hell out of them!
Any truck will last 500,000 miles if you spend $10,000 every 100,000 miles doing maintance, forget that. It all comes down to dollars, If Chevy or Dodge gives more bang for the buck, I might try one (probly a chevy, the cummins engine might never overcome the crappyness of a dodge truck!)
Bottom Line If Ford becomes more trouble than thier worth they can and will be replaced!

Wow,

Ive seen this before. Yeah, Ford talks tough. But most of our engineers are human beings and they take things in to perspective. They arent going to void it unless they can prove it and if a dealer does it with out contacting an engineer and proving it, Ford needs to be contacted.

I was told it is the burdon of the aftermarket company to prove it was not at fault , in which the customer will still pay cause most aftermarket companies will not pick up the tab . I am just shareing from a 1 hour seminar on customer service related issues re: the 6.4 . One of my suggestions to the regional rep is that all diesel trucks should come standard with a egt probe/gauge so people know what is going on with the truck while under heavy loads . hopefully it gets back to engineering . As I feel it is one of the primary reasons for problems with the 6.0 .

I am just sharing info so all of us can enjoy our powerstrokes without getting screwed around .

all diesel engines will have to meet federal emmisions standards for 08 so dodge and chevy are not exempt from this event . Dont think just by switching brands you will bypass the issue .

I am not trying to scare anyone away as I feel we have a great step up in engine /truck technology coming our way

Fact is chevy and dodge are doing better with warranty claims.
Not sure about 250/350 models, but the F-450 has an 81 mph speed limiter, if these engines are truly unmodable, that is totaly unacceptable!
