All that sh_t get kicked up and contaminate all of you old fluid and that is exactly what happens in your transmission..... You need to make sure you get one done with a machine that doesn't have a 12v motor or other power source and use one that does do a 1:1 exchange that uses the trans pump to cycle the fluid. This horse has been kicked in the teeth time and time again and I will always say spend the money and do the flush.
So you do the flush, and then do you drop the pan to clean the magnet? That's a LOT of fluid to replace

I just got my truck about a month ago and so I will drop the pan and check it one time then from here on out all I will do is the flush and external filter about every 25-30k depending on my towing...

I've bought my truck brand new. I wonder if I need to drop the pan, or I can the the external filter, and a flush. I have 27k and tow about twice a year

I would just do the external and flush it... I do recommend finding a shop that uses BG Products though, you will get a lifetime protection plan on your trans if you maintain the service every 30k after you first service to find one go to BG Findashop

So it is time for a flush. I have been shopping around...kinda sorta, with the limited options being the 2 ford dealerships in town...one wants $450 and the other one will do it for $350...****ting thing is that they were only charging $250 6 months ago. (all prices in Canadian Dollars)

Well, I happened to be talking to a guy at the old ladys BBQ and it turns out he owns a Transmission shop. I asked him if he had any alternatives to the price ford transmission fluid and he told me that Wynn's has a full synthetic transmission oil and that they offer 320,000km warranty on the transmission if you get a flush done with it every 50,000km's starting with the first flush at 50,000 kms. If you don't get the first one done at 50,000km's with the wynns product then they reduce the warranty down to someting like 200 or 250,000km's...which is still above the 160,000 that ford offers.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this of had flushes down with other manufacturers oil. From what i understand, ford is the only approved oil for this transmission...but there has to be something else out there.
odd, my owners manual calls for a 60k flush

I have found a shop here already, but it's going to cost me $325 to use the BG

What do you do with you truck? I see its lifted and some mods so that right there alone puts extra strain on the trans compared to stok, and if you tow that just adds more. I feel that fluid is way cheaper that a trans and yeah 300-350 bucks for a flush is a little on the high side but money well spent.

its not lifted and has some mods, its lifted. That is it, stock filter, stock exhaust, stock stock stock stock. Just a lift and tires.

As far as what i do with it, it sits in my driveway... It used to be the wifes DD, but when she started working .8 miles from home it got parked. No need to drive a diesel such a short distance. And I am military and never home to drive it. it is 2 years old and has 26000 on it, with 22 of those in the first year. It has towed something 5 maybe 6 times, and the heaviest load was 8000lbs.
Im just commenting that my owners manual doesnt call for a 30k flush like the op stated was necessary. its a good idea yes, but not required. And I'm not sure what cheap is, but a trans flush, done right isn't cheap. Cheaper than a tranny yes. but i would have to intend to keep this truck long enough for that to become and issue.

Here's my .02. I talked to my service advisor at Alexander Ford and he said they recomended changing filters every 30k US miles and the flush at 60K. I was also told they will use any tranny fluid you want as long as you supply it at flush time. I agree it is the ONLY WAY to completely change the fluid, the trq converter hold 8 qts by its self and you cant drain it out. I will be doing the flush in about 10K and I will be useing Schaffers Synthetic. My dealership charges $179.00 + my fluid

Because I am in the Cold North my dealership tells me i have to use the Extreme Conditions service regiment in regards to all of my maintenance... In my opinion if i was pulling heavy loads all the time...perhaps yes every 30,000 would be a good thing to do...but every other vehicle (cars) i have indicated 80,000 or 100,000 km between tranny flushes and that was with a non synthetic fluid. Since my truck was not being used as intended I am not overy concerned with missing the initial flush at 30,000.

Best i have found here is now $350 at the other ford in town. I think i am going to start phoning the dealerships around Minot ND. Its only a 4 hour drive and we are looking for an excuse to go down and do some shopping anyways.
