Okay Fisherford, you helped get me motivated. I did my truck last year and my wife's Escape two years ago a few months after we purchased it. It needed a really good cleaning up and I needed to wash the chromies up after last years use and sitting in the garage for the last 6 months. (Wintertime in Utah with road salt is too harsh on them) Anyhow, I gave it the full detail job yesterday. Washed it, clayed it, then dried it off and put on Meguiars #16. For the rims, I used a heavy Meguiars compound on the inside and Meguiars ScratchX on the chrome followed by Mothers Chrome Polish. Here are the results. Maybe, (long shot) we'll have everyone's cars and trucks polished up like this. BTW, the clay job could be done a couple times per year...it really doesn't take that long and the results are fantastic. It's almost like getting a new car again, except better. When you get your vehicle brand new, it isn't this clean nor the paint this smooth. The problem is that I now have to do my truck...it's jealous. That is the work of the Escape x 3 or 4. As a plug to the Meguiar's forum...I'd highly recommend it if anyone has any questions. Lots of good information there. Here's my pictures taken this morning. ![]() ![]()

Looks good...clay bar and wax is just the beginning... if you take it out in the sun (most true detailers wouldnt even look at the pics you took) and take direct sun shots I am sure you have spider webs, halos, and micro marring... if you want a true deep, wet, glossy shine you will need a DA polisher and an assortment of polishes, sealants, and waxes... Go to F150online.com and go to the detailing section there is OOOOOODLES of information there, and all of the guys that hang out in that section are great.

While many people wash and wax their cars, thinking their looking their best, I can attest that due to the dozen or so Meguiars products I own, there's not many spider webs, (visible micro scratches) halos or anything else in any of my cars. For one, I've never had a buffer on any of my cars. All waxes and applications are done by hand only. The nice thing about buying my cars new is that I get to baby them from new through the duration I own them. I never let them get bad enough that I need to mechanically buff. For those interested, there are many great places to learn about how to make your vehicle truely look its best...I refer to www.meguiarsoline.com as my reference source. Works great for me whatever color the vehicle is. BTW, the picture was taken in direct sunlight. If I knew this topic was going to arise, I'd take a micro shot at a good reflection so you could see how visibly unscratched it actually is. ![]() Brad |
