Engine oil heater...

Just wondering if anyone has any experience using the pad style oil pan warmer to help in cold weather start-ups?

yes it will help allot, yet the only issue is that it is external, the block heater is internal, more efficient. Using both is even better. Another idea is a block heater and a pad for the trans which is a great combination
