So this week, I took my 05 PSD in to have the Precision Industries Stallion torque converter installed on my truck. I figured I would do this upgrade since I got such a good deal on the converter ($500 brand new). Well, the mechanic calls me about 4 hours into the project and says its apparent somebody has been into the tranny before. I tell him that my motor was dropped out by Tuttle Click Ford about 18 months ago to have the bedplate oil leak fixed. He then tells me that one of the bolts holding the torque converter is missing and the other 5 are severely stripped and they're struggling getting them all out. It ends up costing me $750 to have the new torque converter installed because the time it took to get the stock one out. When I paid, he told me that there were two bolts in the bellhousing that were missing also.
Now I don't know what could've happened with these bolts missing and being stripped so bad, but I figure it could've been bad and cost me a whole lot more than $750!
For once, I'm actually really glad I did an aftermarket upgrade and it made it a whole lot easier to justify to my wife!
