Coolant temp gauge not working

Ok so I just bought an 04 crew cab 6.0 The damn coolant temp gauge stopped working 5 miles down the road. What are the most common problems with them. Where should I start to fix this problem?

follow the top radiator hose to the engine. right behind the thermostat housing will be a sensor.. with 2 wires on it check and see if you are getting power through those wires..
