What is a smoke switch ?

What is a smoke switch & how does it work ?
why would you want all that un-burnt fuel comeing out (which is not good for your motor) which washes out the rings.
Am i missing something ?

for one, i didnt know how it worked or hooked up.
two, i didnt know if it did anything else beside make smoke,
three, i also didnt know flushing unburnt fuel through your cylenders made you cool !
