Stupid Question:
When Ford replaces the heads(under warraty) on a 6.0 do they put studs in or bolt again?
The 05 f350 I just bought had head and head bolt replacement on the oasis report @ 98k. Just wondering if they went back with stronger bolts or studs or the same crappy stock bolts.

You can see the headbolts if you look from the drivers side. If it has a stud sticking up with a place to tighten with a torx driver and a nut on it, it is a stud. If it just looks like a regular bolt, that's because it is.

HMMM, I'm an idiot, thanks.

But the question still lies; does/will Ford install studs or is it strictly after market?

Im no expert, but i think they will install studs, if you give them to them to install, otherwise i think they just use bolts with a thicker 7 layer gasket. Im not 100% sure on that, so i could be a bit off.

some dealers do and some dont......you would have to get the studs yourself.

From what I have read on here some dealers will install headstuds upon yor request if you provide them. It is encouraged that you "pad their pockets" a bit if they are willing to work with yu in this regard as it is not a general pratice.

Ford only installs OEM bolts on a HG repair job. It's up to you, the customer, to supply the ARP head studs to your dealership IF they'll allow you to substitute them for the factory bolts. Most dealerships will cooperate, but a lot will not.

So if the stock head bolts suck, and the head/head gasket fail; why would they replace with the same bolt?
