alright i have 2005 350 and i have the auto hubs with the electric 4 wheel switch. the auto hubs are locked in auto, i cant turn them to lock and when i switch the electric nob to 4 wheel low or high the 4 wheel drive will not engage. ford said the reason is probably because the hubs are dirty and the vacs are leaking and they said it would be $823 to fix everything with the hubs but they said the 4 wheel still may not engage after that. are there any other tricks to getting it in to 4 wheel i could try before i start looking into the expenses??
thanks for the help guys |

Does your front driveshaft turn? You may have to jack up the rear wheels and put it in 4x4.

Put in in 4 wheel, drive forward slow have someone watch it. If it does, have them watch the front axle where the axle goes into the back of the wheel. If one of the axles is not turning while going forward then that is the hub that is not locking

If the light comes on then the transfer case is working. I took a motor apart and the only way the light can come on is if the shaft is in the right position for 4wd. what i would do is lock in the hubs and drive back and forth a little. Then get under the truck and try and spin the axle shafts with a screw driver pry bar what ever. If you can't spin it the hub works, if it spins then that hub isnt working. You cant lock in either hub manually?

Mine is a 99 and IDK if they are the same, but one of my hubs got stuck between auto and lock and wouldnt turn. I put on the warn premium manual lock outs. They were about 300 for the set and took about 15 min to install.
