Good to know delo 400 dino is in the "best" catagory. great info, thanks a lot.

#4 ·
I see valvoline is way up there, been running it for awhile now. It is doing well.

#5 ·
No problem. I'm sure there will be some who disagree with the post. But this is for INFORMATION purposes only, it appears they did a in depth evaluation on these diesel oils. Looks like Redline is #1, but its like $40 bucks a gallon....thats insane. So Rotella and Valvoline Premium Blue done VERY well in the "best" categories

#6 ·
this is off subjuct, but, what do you know about gear oil? break in done now time to put in some good stuff.

#10 ·
From what i have read, is REDLINE 75w140 Synthetic gear oil is top rated as well as the Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 synthetic. I'm using the Amsoil now, because it was easier for me to get. I personally believe the Redline is a better product...

#12 ·
No...not better than Redline

#8 ·
ill stick wit my Amsoil 5w-40 !!!

#11 ·
On other forums people complained that the Amsoil 15w40 oil was not tested. Just from what I have read, if you run Amsoil, the 15w40 HD and Marine is the best product to run, not the Amsoil 5w40...

#13 ·
why not the 5w-40 Amsoil...the new trucks are using the 5w-40 !!!

#14 ·
TBN higher in the 15w40 and has more additives and more resistant to shearing. If your going to go with 5w40, I would recommend Valvoline Primium Blue Extreme, Mobil1 TDT, or Shell Rotella..

#15 ·
ive been runnin it 4 over 30k miles and no probs !!!

#26 ·
Lol...I kno bud, Ive seen your posts b4 and you Represent Valvoline well:thumb: I will be switching over from the Mobil 1 TDT to Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme at my next oil change:)

Getting ready to do an oil change

Just went to AutoZone the other day (Sunday) and bought the oil, filter, and fuel filter. After reading this, should I return the oil I bought (Shell Rotella T 15w-40) and buy something else off the shelf? Ever since I bought the truck, the few guys with diesels on the block told me to go with the Rotella T since that is what they use in their trucks and rigs. I’ve been using it from day 1.:dunno:

If your gonna run the Shell, use the Shell Rotella T 5w40 synthetic in the blue container or use Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme. Return the Rotella T 15w40...just my 2 cents:thumb:

This must be a fairly old report. As most of the top quality oils are the pre 07 standard.

Just to clarify 07 up dodges and chevys and 08 up fords can only run the oils in the Ho-Hum category because they require the CJ-4 standard

#21 ·
It's not old from what I can tell. I'm going to have to read more into this.

"I’m also guessing there isn’t one API CJ-4 oil above the Ho-Hum
performance level. Use these oils only if you have particulate traps
on your vehicles! In fact, some large fl eet operators are running
API- CI-4 and CI-4 plus oils in their 2007 engines. They reason that
it is less expensive to clean their particulate traps more frequently
than it is to cut back on oil change intervals and stock two oils in
their maintenance facilities."

I'm glad that I chose to use Rotella syn 5-40, instead of paying out the azz for Amsoil

im glad i broke my motor in on delo400. DINO. its in the "best" catagory. and its the only non synthetic. cool.

Oil 20 has the most additive of any oil we’ve seen. This is very likely an expensive, but great, Diesel engine oil! Since the additive
package is so expensive, I’ll also bet this oil is a full synthetic. This
is the best Diesel oil in our comparison, but don’t use it in passenger
cars or light duty Diesels. Recall that really high detergent Diesel
oils sometimes don’t offer adequate protection for sliding cam
followers in these engines
.
This is an oil in the "best" category. I would classify our engines as "light duty", at least as far as diesels go. Sounds to me like they were testing for the big diesels. I take it all with a grain of salt....at least ot some extent. You can never have too much information to form your own opinion.

just received uoa, shell 5w-40 syn ci4+, viscosity down to 10.3 after 5000mi. needless to say i'm not impressed. 2007 f350 72,500 mi. alot of stop & go since last oc and also very cold winter (warm-ups), but prior to last oc i always used john deere plus 50 15w-40 and never seen viscosity lower than 13.2 after 7500 mi. back to jd from here on out

as soon as i learn how to scan i'll post the oa
