The 6.0-'shear' elegance but not a 'shear' monster
As a result of the info posted on my 'oil analysis / 17 mpg' thread I am ready to proclaim that the 6.0 is in reality very gentle on SYNTHETIC oil but probably will take a heavy toll on dino.
I am very interested in hearing from those who maintain otherwise-just how did the psd get the rep of shearing oil? |

Your oil is right on the cusp of being a 30w in only 5k miles. That is directly attributable to shear from the HEUI injection systems in our trucks. The 6.0 is in no way gentle on synthetic oil. If it were not for the shearing with proper filtration the oil could go for 10's of thousands of miles.

Good information, Would be interesting to see if someone has oil results with synthetic. When I removed my Conventional 15/40 oil it was the thinnest oil I ever took out of a diesel. I had to measure the amount taken out due to the possibility of Fuel in the oil. The amount was less then I put in. So I do believe the shearing was done to my oil.
