Battery/Electrical Help
So I think there is a short somewhere. After running the truck, or whatever the alternator chargers at 14volts so I know that is not an issue. But when the truck sits for a couple days, next time I try to start it, the battery reads something like 12.3 volts and will not start. Only electrical work I have done to the truck is gages, and this issue only started in the winter. Does anyone else have ideas??

Batteries need to be fully charged then load tested.
But from what it sounds like you have two bad batteries and need to replace them. Because they are not holding a charge any longer. |

Batterys are only a year old?
How do I load test them? |

Take them to an auto parts store and they have the equipment to test them. But they need to be fully charged prior to the test. If not then you will get false test results.

light on
you may have a vanity mirror light stuck on and you cant see it unless its dark in the truck or a glove box light thats not going out when door is closed.both of these things happened to me on different trucks.something to check.
good luck |

Charge and test batteries like said before, i doubt you have a parasitic draw because it would most likely drain the batteries more than that. But if the batteries are ok that may be your problem

I had the same problem
try disconecting the alternator when you park the truck. my batteries would die if truck was not run for 2 days. and alt was charging 14.5V. replaced batteries, same deal. so I disconected the alt and it would sit for weeks and batts were fine. so I replaced the alt.

If you are reading 12.3 and it will not start you have bad batteries. If you had a drain or the alternator was bad the voltage would have been much lower.
