tailpipe hiss
when i first start my 06 6.0 its sounds mean as hell for about 5-6 seconds then it sounds like it is hissing. I read some where in the owners manual that there is a noise reduction built in for the exhaust. How can i get rid of it?

Is it cold where you are? Its possibly the exhaust back pressure valve which closes partly to restrict your exhaust in order to warm the truck up quicker. This however should not be taking place after the truck warms up a bit. Does it take place all the time? Or just on initial startup?

i take it is a stock exhaust right? the hissing sound is just the way the 6.0 sounds. i cant remember how my stock exhaust sounded. but with my aftermarket exhaust once you start it up a few seconds later it starts that hissing like sound

normal. No spark plugs. Diesels should have a sentence by the ignition like there are by the gas door saying "cranky when cold".

I have a 4" banks kit on the truck, no cat and it does it all the time, hot or cold, does not matter. it also did it when it had stock exhaust. It sounds like air is being injected right before the tailpipe, not turbo whine.

You got a muffler? Mine does it too and I think it is the Muffler. All it is is the sound of rushing air, and I think it is the muffler quieting it down....
I got a MBRP 4" turbo back, no cat with a muffler....I was worried it would be too loud in the campground, but now wishing I had ditched the muffler. |
