Am I able to unplug the injectors one at a time while the engine is running in order to find a bad injector. The truck is an 04 6.0. How would I do it? Thanks.
A diagnostic tool works great. In all reality I dont see why it wouldnt work except not being able to get to the plugs without taking some of the motor apart and being on top of the running motor sounds like a bad idea to me. But when my injector went bad the shop let me watch how they do it. They go through and turn off one injector at a time, when the injector is good the idle will get worse (rough/choppy), when the injector is bad the idle will stay the same (no change from before turning the injector off).
There are 4 connectors on each side of the engine through the head just above the valve covers. They have little metal rings on them and go to each one of the injectors. What happens if I unplug each one of those? That should disable the injectors.
Yes, that will disconnect the injector. You don't need to remove the metal clip to unplug them. You push it fully in and it will unhook, allowing you to easily remove. If you do pull one off, they have a tendency to fall into places not seen and never return again. The good new is you loose one, you can use stainless steel TIG rod to bend/make a new one.
You may find on installation it does not catch. You may have to wiggle it to ensure the clip re-seats in the slot. When you look at it, you will know what I mean. Search out injector clip with my name and you will see a picture of it.
