So a buddy of mine tried to hollow out his cat but was only able to break a hole the size of the pipe through the middle. Now, the cat rattles and jingles like the rest of the honeycomb is rattling around in there, especially at idle. It's really annoying, so I told him I'd ask around on here and see how people were able to completely gut the cat, or any ideas of how to go about it, if one were so inclined.
Took me about an hour. It was a PITA. I ended up getting a 10ft 1 1/2'' steel rod. Strapping the cat with a section of exhaust pipe attached to it vertically to a steel beam in my shop. Getting a 6 foot ladder. I repeatedly dropped the steel rod into the cat until everything broke up took about 15mins. Tried different pipes and rods, and tried using a sledge hammer but just wasn't cutting it after 45mins or hammering on it.
Just keep beating on it. I did mine. Wasn't very hard to do, but ended up taking it out and straight pipe in place. Was REALLY raspy under a heavy load.
