My boss wants a new truck, need some advice on the 6.0l.
So, my boss is looking to replace our current work truck, a 98 GMC 2500 5.7L(?).
He's looking for a newer, 2-3 year old f-250 or 350 4x4 Auto with the 6.0l diesel, extended cab, short bed, non-dually.
Mostly, it will be pulling a trailer under 5000 pounds, but occasionally a trailer that is close to 8000 pounds, plus lets say, another 1000 in the bed, and a few hundred pounds of people in the cab. Thats a maximum guestimate.
I have no doubts that the truck is capable of hauling all that with little effort, but I've heard a ton of bad stuff about the 6.0l diesel. So I've read, these things are plagued with problems especially the first few model years. Now, I understand that the first year or two of a new engine there are going to be some teething issues, but it seems that alot of them were never resolved and the whole lawsuit thing between Ford and International. I've also read that the 2006 model year, which was the last for the 6.0L was a hell of an improvement.
The majority of stuff that I've read points to problems with the HPOP, ICP, EGR, headgaskets, leaky injectors and some turbo malfunctions. I've read the page with TSBs and recalls listed thus far, but am still not sure.
Please, tell me what you know, or think. All constructive comments are welcome.
