is this normal?

bare with me hear im a 7.3 guy but my dad has a 2005 350 it has 95000 miles on it only mods are afe stage 2 air intake and a banks 4in. turbo back exhaust it use to have a predator progammer but he got scared and took it out thought the head gaskets would blow but still the factory set.

he asked me why his truck when he first cranks it up in the morning makes all kinds of knocking noise and runs like poo for the first 15-20 and has no power. he waits till the wait to start light goes off and it will still do it and its not the cold because we live in florida it did it even during the summer he wants to know why i can just hop in my 7.3 and crank it right up cold no waiting or nothin and i dont know what to tell him any opinions

Mine starts fine, even at 20*. Is clatters a bit but that's characteristic of a diesel. He's still under warranty right? I know the power train warranty is good till 100k, have him take it in, that's why we paid so much for our trucks is the warranty

If it wasn't a holiday, I'm sure you'd have some techs on here to try and give you some answers

did he get the cold weather PCM flash upgrade? if not, that will probably do the trick.

Should be a free fix, too.

Sorry, I didn't mean mods, i meant engine work...

As lawman349 stated there is a pcm flash.

Has he been noticing any smoke of any type (other than the usual) when he runs into the hard start?
