I am new to the forum and have learned a lot from all of your threads. But I have an issue that I am not sure which direction to go moving forward.
Last week I bought a 2005 F350 srw with a 6.0 with 189000 miles. The owner was not very knowledgable about the Diesel engine but he did know that the egr delete was done, has the evolution programmer, 4 inch exhaust. He bought the truck for his wife to drive and she didn't like it. He owned it for 4 months said they never plugged it in and she would always start it an hour early before leaving for work. She only drove 8 miles one way and the truck has never had any hitches in the bed only pulled with the bumper hitch.
When I drove it he made sure to let me know that the temp needs to be up on the engine and trans then it runs like it should. The truck is in excellent shape and drove good on way home which was 3 hr drive. Stopped in my town and filled tank with 19 gallons to top it off. The next days the truck acted like it was cutting out real bad so my thinking was that the wife just wasn't getting the cobs blown out of it since it idles for an hour a day and driven very little.
I went to the pep boys and got some fuel additive and proceeded to run it harder than normal for a couple hours. This seemed to really make a difference because now it has a sweet whistle at idle where there was nothing before.
Have drove the truck for next few days and still wants to sputter even after fully warm and when it does run smooth it sounds like it surges and the whistle of the turbo goes up and down with the throttle not moving.
Any ideas? Is is still going to take a while for the injectors to get cleaned by the additive? Should I get something different like the rev x I have read about?
Thanks for the help as I am at a loss. I know this will be a real nice truck when resolved but just frustrating until then.
