I ran out of fuel

I cant believe I done it, but i ran out of fuel, I felt like an idiot. I was pulling my enclosed trailor to a race and I knew I needed fuel but the people I was following didnt stop for me at the first exit. The "lie ometer" said I had 20 some miles till empty. Well I figured I could make it to the next exit. Well Just a few seconds later the truck shuts completely off. I just about crapped my pants... I was running like 80 and the rpms said 0! So I have to stand on the brakes and tugg on the steering wheel to get it off the side of the road. I think the trailor helped slow it down. As soon as it stopped I put it in park and cut the ignition off. Luckily we had a gas can and the people I was following went and got me some diesel. I have heard horror stories of running one empty so I was pissed, plus I was 4 hours away from home. Somehow when I put the diesel back in it fired right up. You wanna talk about scary, try pouring fuel in a car on the saide of the road with cars going by at 80 like 5 ft away. PLus its nerv racking when you see cars flying by and the truck and trailor were swaying with the blowby wind. I just know someone was going to hit it but we were lucky.

I just figured I would share my little event.
Do you think I could have messed anything up by doing this? It seemed to run fine afterwards.
