Yeah, its the vacuum pump. I'm not the best at explaining this, but if you'll notice on a gasser motor all the vacuum lines used to run brakes, etc. are run to the intake where they get that vacuum. On a diesel it doesn't work that way which results in needing a supplemental pump to operate various things.
