I'm pretty sure i located the external tranny filter housing, but just wanted to make sure. Anybody have a pic of it? How does it come off? Thanks, Alex.

comes off with a wrench.
Its on the passenger side, next to the frame rail (sorta) behind the radiator(sorta.) Its a silvery canister looking thing with a bolt head on it. |

It is an aluminum filter housing about the size of your clenched fist, underneath the radiator and slightly back from it, in the front of your truck...
Assembly is typical of filter housings, with that type of element inside... I have heard ONLY use Motorcraft filters as another type disintegrated and plugged up the transmission oil cooling to MUNCH the tranny... Kind Regards from Oz.... |

I had to use an impact wrench to remove it. The whole housing and the lines moved too much when trying to use a hand wrench. Didn't want to bend the lines, etc.
You would be wise to buy a Motorcraft element as Lone Ranger suggested. |
