fuel guage is broke?
i bought a used 06 f250 about 6 months ago. ever since i bought it i would top it off when filling up at the pump. well, about two months ago i noticed that when i was filling up there was a small leak that would start coming from the top of the fuel tank, the leak would start just a few seconds before the pump would click off telling me it was full. since then i havent topped it off (obviously) cus it would end up on the floor. so yesterday i went to fill the tank and it had a small leak like always, but this time when i went to drive off, the fuel guage read empty and the computer said 22 miles to empty. it took about an hour of driving (running errands) that the fuel guage crawled back up to full and the computer read 359 miles to empty. called dealer, they said because i have 37K mi. its outta warranty. if anyone else has had this problem or can help me i would appreciate it. thanx in advance.

My 05 has done the same thing (minus the leak) since new. it has always come back up to full after a few miles, so i haven't really worried about it. i don't have the computer, just the gauge. it doesn't happen now with any more regularity (2-3times/yr?) than it used to, so i'm not losing sleep over it. way out of warranty

my dads 05 did this minus the leak and he drove around for about a week and it never came back up..turns out the sending unit went bad in the tank

it all got resolved. turns out that after the next fill up, the guage started working normally and even more amazing, the leak completely stopped...go figure.
