popping noise when accelerator released

My 2005 Ford F350 6.0 liter makes a popping noise when the accelerator pedal is released. Usually when I accelerate and let off I can hear a popping, hard to describe noise. It is a low pitch noise and pops 4 or 5 times. Everything else seems normal, some turbo lag, but performance seems normal. I am new to the truck and it may be a normal thing. Any thoughts???

sometimes you will here a bunch of turbo flutter out the air intake if you let off the pedal quick or maybe if you have aftermarket exhaust it is rubbing on the tranny...i have had that happen before but it seems to do that only under hard acceleration...thats all i know

popping noise.

thanks for your reply. The truck is stock as stock can be. 138 k and no aftermarket stuff yet. It does sound like a flutter noise only after mid to hard accel and release. under normal cruise or heavy accel and release there is no noise. I am a diesel mechanic at a GM shop and used to work at a Ford shop years ago. Never heard this type of noise. thought you might know of common concern, seems like intake noise. thanks again!!

If it's a chugging noise, that's just "turbo fart." It's just the surge air going back through the turbo. All 6.0s do it from time to time, especially when cold.

the turbo fart is not actually good for the turbo it puts stresses on the shaft and blades that they are not designed to deal with and overtime it will start to cause problems a blowoff valve can solve this problem plus it sounds a hell of alot better then the fart

Who makes a blow-off valve for a 6.0 litre PSD.
