New Member questions on 6.0L

I have been searching a lot on the 6.0l powerstroke motore, and quite honestly i am quite skeptical on the motor. I have a friend of mine who has a 2004 f-250 4x4 Crew Cab in like new condition, with only 24,000 miles on it. The truck was a trade in at a local rv dealer and he bought it to resell on his carlot. The asking price is 23,000 but I can get it for less. Is this a good deal ?
Would there be any remaining warranty on the truck?
What should I be wary of on these trucks, because, I have read lots of horror stories online.
What is the expected mileage on this truck, and can it be improved?
