New low sulfur fuel?

All right guys I need some info on this new low sulfur fuel bulls***! I haven't run any in my truck yet but I ran into a guy that has a pukamax and north of where I live, the low sulfur is all they can get now! The guy with the pukamax told me that they have only had it for a month but his truck has been in the shop twice for mysterious reasons. He said he dropped almost 3 miles a gallon and the truck has no power! I am starting to get concerned about this fuel thingy because I didn't pay $46,000 for a truck that I won't be able to run, and if I have to go buy an additive, what kind or brand?

That sounds about right for the fuel economy. I haven't seen a real concensus yet on what is needed. The official story is that the low sulfur has less lubrication and that the manufacture have added a cetain boost at the refinery. I've also heard that it is the absolute minimum that is needed and that you should add some more just to be on the safe side. As this is my first diesel, I have yet to play around with additives, so I can't really recomend any one yet. They haven't started putting low sulfur in the pumps here as far as I know.

That's what I had heard also! Low sulfur = lowered luberication! Man I get fired up about the goverment always giving us the shaft without us knowing it! My family is in the trucking business and this topic is the buzz at family get togethers. I heard to run Lucas injector cleaner / fuel stabilizer but to make sure it had no alhocol in it. I guess we will have to sit back and wait till the big dogs get in!

I haven't seen the low sulfur fuel by me yet but they have stickers on the tanks saying low sulfur fuel 2007 and later it is illegal to ........ Can't remember the rest. I take it, that means 2007, 2008, 2009, so on, and so forth. I may be wrong but hopefully someone somewhere can shed some light on this for us!

I bought my truck and was averaging 16 to 17 miles per gallon and now I can only get 15. Hmmmmm......... I wonder if I am not getting the low sulfur already?

I thought that I read somewhere that pumps with ULSD were suppose to be clearly marked. I think that at the moment just the big truck stops have it. We were supposed to 85% ULSD by Oct. 15. I'll have to get fuel later this week, so I'll see what the local station has.

Ya I have to get fuel later on today so I'll see what ours say now. I was just surfing the web and looked at chevron's web site and they said that adding an additive won't help!?! Okay now I am really confused!

thats the first problem, buying from cheveron. I have had nothing but problems with mileage and power with their fuel, not to mention it is i think the highest priced fuel on the market. I would pay 2.69 if i chose to buy their liquid gold. Even our boidiesel here is that expensive. Im not sure what you are paying but i do know we are all being ripped off. Not sure when the ULSD is going to be in the pumps but as soon as i see it i will try it and make a post my thoughts on this new fuel.

I've been reading all the bottles of Diesel additive I can find and so far only 1 has actually been formulated for ULSD. It's the company that makes "Diesel Kleen" only it's in a white bottle w/ a red lid. It says that it puts in the needed lubrication that ULSD lacks and also boosts Cetane levels by around 4 points. My problem is that this bottle if I use the maximum level (which I'm going to use) only does about 4 tanks worth of full and the bottle w/tax was about 17 dollars. I'm not sure how it's actually going to work yet but I've bought a couple bottles to keep on hand. Says it also eliminates and icing and waxing in cold weather.

Right now diesel is runnin around $2.45 a gallon up here. We do not have any chevron stations, just BP, circle K, and Speedway. I normally buy my fuel at Marathon aka circle K. I stay away from BP and the rest. We do not have bio as an option cuz of the gelling issue during the winter months. I just typed in low sulphur fuel on yahoo to see what would come up and their web site came up. I try not getting info from our government cuz they only tell you the bare minium as far as facts!

we have cheveron, texaco, Flying J, Sinclair and a few others here but cheveron is atleast 10 to 15 cents higher than anyone else. It is rediculous. When they drop their cost of gasoline, they raise diesel to compensate. the state of utah did an investigation and concluded that it isnt the refineries that are charging us this much it is the station owners. The owners are adjusting their own prices so now they too make record profits.

Marc told me to stay away from any of the additives that has alocohol in it!!!! cblack I think I've seen that stuff at tractor supply and I will have to check it out. I've been kinda hesitinant about using it but now we have to worry about this! The guy I talked to drove to Texas 4 times a year, hauling cattle, and he just walked up and started asking me questions cuz I was sitting waiting on the wife. He told me that he had no problems until the last month when he started running the low sulphur stuff. His truck hasn't been running right and the guy who works on his truck told him it was because of the low sulphur stuff. He is affraid to even drive his truck to Texas next week because of the problems!
