It really depends on the shop, and where you are. Ive run into the same problem in the past, and some shops will tell you that (and it's true they can get hit with a fine), but keep looking and I'll bet you find one that will take care of you. The guy I've been going to for years takes care of that stuff for me everytime, but I also 'tip' him, if/when it ever involves the removal of cats. Thats a little different then removing a muffler, or installing cutouts. Many places won't touch catalytic convertors.

If all else fails, saw it off in your garage, and then take it down to the shop, and have them finish the job. This way they cannot be held liable for the removal of your vehicles' emissions equip, and problem solved.

Good luck!

Buy a $40 AFE Cat Eliminator Pipe and do it yourself. If you can perform simple tasks with a wrench, you will do fine.

Yeah its really hard to find a shop that'll take the cat out for you, no one wants to pay that fine. I talked to 3 shops in my area, and none of them would touch it. So after I got the exhaust system installed I just took the Cat out myself. Took about 90mins and a lot of cussing, but got it out, and put the delete pipe in.

pistolpete837,

Most shops will not touch it as there is a $10,000.00 per offense Federal fine that they are looking at if they get caught!! The AFE delete pipe is for off road and racing use. It bolts right up to the stock Ford down pipe and system and is a pretty easy install. We stock them in aluminized and 409 stainless. it will also bolt to the AFE or MBRP down pipe and or system if you decide down the road to get a complete exhaust etc. Call us if you have any questions etc.

I cut my cat off and threw a turndown on it before I got my magnaflow. It got annoying real quick, so I wanted to get about 4 or 5 feet of pipe put on to dump it behind the cab so it wouldn't be so bad. The local shop I have been loyal too many times would not do it unless I had a cat on it, since it came from the factory with one. I was happy they were "law abiding" I guess, but I mean really.....I just wanted a piece of pipe.
