blower motor woes.. what to ask the dealer??

Hi all,

my 96 f 250 has been sitting for about 3 months. after putting in new batteries and fresh diesel last week, she is up and running fine with all sysytems go... except one:

the blower motor will only work when se to the highest bar/ setting.
now the bar setting light/ display comes on and works up and down both from the wheel control and the dash control... but the fan will only come on when it goes to the highest seting.. and thats after a moment, or 2, of hesitation.

I have tried the motor in all settings: auto.. manual... ac... heat... all the diff duct controls, etc.

one last thing.. when set on hi and the blower is working.. if i hit the recirc (max ac) button, it kicks up like it should.

going to the dealer today, as its a 96 with 14k miles, so its still under warranty,, but i'd like to have an idea of what to expect?

motor? relay? i know it could be a number of things, but any ideas out there?

thanks in advance!

rick

I know mines a 99 Superduty, but I had the same problem, it only worked in high. It was the relay thats under the hood on the back side of the blowermotor. It tells which speed to set the fan, based on input from the control. I would try that. Its only a 14 dollar part! Buddy of mine thatas a ford tech said 75% of the time, its the relay thats bad.
