i know this sounds funny but i tried the whole gentle on the pedal thing but onestly i think my truck just likes to get up to speed quicker. but i've been idling so much on this tank (rescuing cars with my trailer) that i can't really say what i'm getting now.

there's another thread here somewhere about saving fuel...of course being light from your start up is better; the unless you have a manual, the tranny still shifts at the same interval, so you're just burnin fuel and beating up your parts by gunning it....some other tricks include drifting into new green lights, although you can rearend someone this way, and taking a route with more open highways and less stops; each time you make a dead start, the truck has to do more work to get moving again....generally, for 7.3s at least...idling expends fuel at about a gallon and hour, although not in cold weather cause of the warmup valve...

good luck

wes

fuel

i would have to say alot of it comes down to driving practices.
as long as you do the reg maint. and keep air in the tires there is not alot you can do but drive without stoping.

if i see a light changing ahead of me i let off the pedal and coast, which saves me from starting out at a dead stop. even if i am only going 20 when the light changes, i am already going 20, plus got to coast all the way there. some people get mad when you dont speed up to the light and slam on your breaks when you get there, but i dont care.

my mpg does not vary much from easy on the pedal to faster take offs. i would say i stick to the slower side taking off, mostly to save wear and tear on my tranny and tires.

Keep your fluids and filters (especially air filter) clean and changed. A tonneau cover for the bed can add up to 10% or at least 1 MPG.

Talking Better Fuel Economy

I have a 06 F350 6.0 Automatic, I get the best mileage (18.5) if I keep my foot out of the turbo, I take off real slow and evenly and keep the speed around 50-60mph. My gear ratio is 3.73. Good Luck

Go easy on the skinny pedal and coast

Rember this...
Less of either pedal = Less fuel used

Proper tire presure and clean oil and air filters. A slight increase in power from a module or programmer can give you as much as 2-3 mpg, but takes a few miles to pay off. Drive down hill only!
